Drie keer 'water'After the great five-day safari through Ethosha, we take our bikes from under the sail at the lodge just outside the park. They are there exactly as we had left them and start without problems. Great! We pitch our tents on the campsite of the lodge and sink into a chair while we have a look at the pictures of Etosha with a smile on our faces. We use the rest of the afternoon for the administration and the laundry and then bend over the map to plan the remainder of the trip. There are three places we would like to visit with Dick: the Chobe River in Botswana, Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and the Okavango Delta, again in Botswana. Three times to the water! EtoshaA highlight of our trip through Africa”, we can certainly say that about our visit to Etosha National Park. The game park is situated in the north-west of Namibia and is one of the largest game parks in southern Africa. With an area of 22,270 km2 it is greater than half of the Netherlands! The park is home to a large number of different animals: large groups of elephants, rhinos, zebras, all kinds of antelopes and many birds. The park consists of dry savannah, with a huge salt pan in the center and a large number of waterholes throughout the park. The animals all come to the waterholes to drink, making it the perfect place to see the wildlife. Lees meer (Read more)

Geheim van AfrikaWe lie in our tent in Lilongwe and hear the alarm buzzing. The city around us is already awake for a while now. Trucks drive back and forth and taxis honk at potential customers. With earplugs we tried to ignore the sounds of the city for a while, but even for us it is time to get up now. Today we first pass another border, from Malawi to Zambia, and then we still have a long drive ahead of us to South Luangwa National Park. We are going back to the bush to look for wildlife. Op zoek naar berggorilla's!Deep in the tropical rainforests of Uganda lives one of the most endangered species in the world; the Mountain Gorilla. It is one of four types of gorilla’s and with a population of only 850 by far the most endangered type. The Mountain Gorilla is found in the national parks on the borders of Uganda, Rwanda and Congo (DRC). Each year, only a limited number of tourists can go on a gorilla-tracking. We were two of the lucky ones who managed to get tickets! Lees meer (Read more)

Green, greener, greenest

GroengandaAfter some relaxed days in Fort Portal, we ride out to the crater lakes just south of the city. Once we leave the center we immediately drive in a rural area along green fields and many bright green banana trees. The road winds up and down over the round hills. Here and there are small brown houses, sometimes right on top of such a round bump. The rain of the last days has done nature well, because everything sparkles in dozens colors of green. Motorbike safari in Uganda

Motorsafari in OegandaGrand waterfalls, white beaches on an azure ocean, tropical forests, gurgling volcanoes, blistering hot deserts and raging rivers. All this we saw during our trip through Africa. And chances are that we will see such beauty again on other continents. However, one thing is unique to Africa: the vast savannas bearing the ‘Big Five’. Africa is the only continent where lions, buffaloes, rhinos, leopards and African elephants still exist in the wild. They can be seen during a safari in one of the many national parks. And now we’re here … Lees meer (Read more)
